What is it :
          Organisation for Development Integration and Social Action (O.D.I.S.A.), is the social work organisation of the Vincentian Fathers (Congregation of the Mission, Northern Province), working in Northern India. The Vincentian Fathers started working in Orissa ever since 1922's for the development of the weaker, under privileged and poorest sections of the society, in various remote areas. O.D.I.S.A., as a sister concern of the Vincentian Fathers and as an official mark of commitment to the rural poor was separately registered in the year 1991. It has the Government recognized FCRA registration and Income Tax exemption certificates, to facilitate its activities. ODISA has a governing body with Fr. Provincial (The Provincial Superior of the Northern Indian Province) as its ex-officio President, and follow up its own by- laws, and functions like any other Non-government Voluntary Service Organizations.
The Vision and Mission of O.D.I.S.A.
          The Vision of O.D.I.S.A. is to build a Just. Self-reliant, Healthy and Happy Society based on human values of love, justice, peace, freedom, equality, brotherhood and respect for life, culture, history and nature, at all levels of existence, so that the "Kingdom of God" is established on earth. The Mission of O.D.I.S.A. is to restore human dignity of the marginalised and disadvantaged sections of the people (Dalits, Tribals, Women, Children and other disadvantaged groups) in the rural areas of Orissa, through a process of empowerment.
Specific Objectives of the Organization
- To establish "Peoples Organizations" such as Self-Help groups, youth groups, farmers clubs, children associations, mahila mandals (women groups) etc.... at the grass root level and to enable and strengthen the existing ones at the community level.
- To conduct socio-economic and political awareness programmes among the poorest and neglected people, so that they become socially conscious and live a dignified life with full rights of a citizen of India.
- To conduct Training Programmes for village leadership.
- To conduct non-formal education programmes for illiterate adults and children, and also take up literacy campaigns, for promotion of education among the illiterates.
- To rehabilitate leprosy patients and other vulnerable groups like handicapped people, in order that they live a dignified life.
- To promote agricultural education and scientific know-how, so as to develop and strengthen a new rural economic order.
- To promote environmental protection by taking up environmental issues, encouraging tree plantations and to find a viable solution to podu cultivation (Shift Cultivation pattern).
- To promote people based Community Health Care System, and to promote basic health infrastructures in rural areas like ( mobile clinics, dispensary, health camps, awareness meetings, water facility, sanitation etc.)
- To promote, co-operatives, community stores, saving schemes, village crafts and other economic enterprises and initiatives, which helps the poor people to sustain themselves and stand on their own feet.
The Target Groups
         The target groups for the development work of ODISA includes, the following classes of people such as socially and economically poor and backward Tribals, Scheduled Castes, women, Handicapped, Children's,, Destitute, aged, leprosy patients, landless and marginalised farmers, aged etc..
ODISA Infrastructure
          ODISA has its Central office in Vijoy Bhavan Campus, which is also the Provincial House of the Vincentian Fathers. It has regional offices in 15 mission centers, where Vincentian Fathers are working in Orissa. The Organization runs 2 Leprosy Rehabilitation Centers. 4 Rural Dispensaries for basic health services, 2 Development Training Institutes, 10 Community Stores, and 5 Model Agricultural Nurseries and operates in 250 villages for Community Development Programmes. The project programmes are right now benefiting a target group of 20,000 rural poor in 6 districts of Orissa.
